The rooms at the Palms in Ocean Beach are small but attractive.
This really is the thorniest of topics, and we're sure to make no new friends by saying there isn't really a hotel on Fire Island that's worth the money.
That said, there are two we feel are clean and friendly enough so as to be worth overpaying. And to be completely fair, there's barely anything worth the money that you pay to spend the night in the Hamptons this time of year. Our two picks for this season are:
The Palms at Ocean Beach Recently renovated and cute as a button, there are tiny, but bright and cheerful rooms (see above), he recently renovated hotel has tiny but bright and cheerful rooms, most with shared bathrooms in the hallway. Morning coffee is served out on the back patio. Rates peak at $265 for a typical room and start falling from there ($195 on summer weekdays) 168 Cottage Walk, Ocean Beach
